Remote working: the pandemic’s silver lining

The times are moving, and so are we. Moving out of the office and into work spaces that feel like home. The great thing with technology, the digital age and all its advancements is that we are starting to realise that people are not robots, and they should not work like ones either.

For a while every company believed that the office is where the productivity is at. They were wrong.

It’s better at home

A big surprise for those who weren’t too sure about this whole working from home situation is the increase in productivity. The belief was that “home” is filled with all sorts of distractions that will make it harder for you to work. The reality is, even with everything that might be going on in people's households, everyone left the distractions in the office.

A study by Stanford Business Graduate School found that performance in 2020 was boosted by 20% for employers who were able to work from home. A further study by HR firm SHRM showed that even when sick, employees are more likely to be productive when working from home.

Think about your profit

Rent, lights and all the other overheads that come with having a big fancy office filled with unhappy employees becomes a thing of the past. Where does all that money go? Towards growing your business and ensuring you have motivated, productive employees.

Wanna keep your employees happy?

People are happier when they feel in control. That is why remote working works so well. The ability to create a work environment that is more suited to your needs. Being able to create a work schedule that fits all aspects of your life and your productivity intervals. These are just some of the things that contribute to the overall happiness of your employees.

What about the trees?

Nobody is saying be a tree hugger but every once in a while take into consideration the impact you have on the environment. Daily commuting means there are a lot more cars emitting harmful gasses into the air. The less people drive to and from work, the happier the trees are.

Your company culture is the people, not the cubicles. What you don’t want is a culture of unhappy and demoralised employees. The pandemic has shown us that not only is remote working possible, it is also very profitable.
